painting by the river

i like the trio painting session today.
it was just purely staying rooted at one spot and doing our art for that few hours,
with not much conversations exchanged but that's the ideal plan of it.

however, i don't exactly enjoy the random visits by passer-bys
looking AND commenting on my work in the midst of me doing my artwork.
so next time, we shall find a private location.

the previous time i painted the Singapore river was 10 years ago,
and i clinched a silver award for that international children art competition then.

what intrigues me is how unique each of our painting style is.
i mean, yes obviously everyone sure have their own personalized style,
but what i am trying to say is that it is interesting when you get to first hand
see one another produce different artworks for the same matter/subject.

it feels good to paint again... =] thanks simon and dom!

i had a little chat with this nsman today (no, it's not gonna be a blog entry about the organization) and he was sharing with me his experiences working in the design industry as a game designer (character designs).

i questioned him if he has ever felt that the passion for design dies off for some period of time in the midst of his career, and he said its inevitable. the one ever truth which i have always try to let it not sink into me:

"You have to understand that at some point in life, passion doesn't tally to money anymore. It is easier to find a job that first suits your hopeful pay, and from there try to develop interest in it than to find a job that is of your interest, and get the pay you want."

i'm sorry for voicing this honest opinion i have, but i don't understand why the sales people are earning more than us, the designers. enlighten me, somebody. don't come and tell me the same old theory - without the sales, you don't get the jobs cos i too can tell you without the input from us, you don't get the output.

------

a superior of mine shared his big fat theory on officership which i concur NOTHING of it -
"there's a reason why you are wearing that bar... yadda yadda yadda."

this is a long overdue work and i wanted to do a whole mega illustration like some mika-pop-art stuff for my self-portrait (just incase you haven't figured it's a digital illustration of myself) but i'm way too lazy.

somehow, there's a weird vibe to it. eh, i will get it sorted out soon with illustrations!

it was a small picnic outing i organized for the few of us,
and i was thinking i could organize another social event,
inviting more people this time round?

i miss my design friends,
and that i demand a catch up session soon!

i haven't visit my moleskine sketchbook for quite sometime,
cos' nothing inspirational has struck me yet.

canvas shoes

my friend's old canvas shoes with a new facelift.
it's my first time drawing on a canvas,
and on a shoe using a pen.

it's not bad an experience but
parts of the drawings were smudged by some water stains,
hence explained the purple-ish patches.

i shall try acrylic paint or fabric pen the next time round,
should i have some other shoes to work on,
but i doubt it will turn out well since both materials
seem difficult to control.

throwing comments such as follows:
"you should stop doing your rubbish drawings..."
oh, that fellow used to be my bunkmate.

when you were just minding your own business,
doing your doodles in the sketchbook,
and this particular nosey fellow had to peer over,
stretching his neck like how a tortoise would
reach for some air when it is in water,
and he probably felt that his opinions
had to be heard in that very instance,
and said, "that's so ugly."
